Hello Mission Partners!

What an incredible work day we had yesterday!  We had a slight setback on our roofing project due to rain and wind that blew the tarp off of the roof on our worksite Monday night, leaving even more water damage in Miss Paulette’s home. Fortunately, there is much work to be done on her home and yesterday, our students cleared EVERYTHING out of her house!  (please see the photo of the full dumpster below)  We cleared out an entire home and nearly all of its contents and disposed of it all.  No one has lived in this home for many years.  On the inside, it looked as if someone had left everything and just simply walked away.  A little interesting fact- yesterday we learned that Miss Paulette’s home was built in 1915, making it 100 years old next year!
So…we did tons of yard work, cleared out her home and began making repairs to the damaged wood on her roof with the hope that today we will be able to begin laying the tar paper and new shingles.  This is a home that needs so much work from strong, willing volunteers throughout the entire summer.  Please pray that God continues to send groups to Team Effort this summer that can do the strenuous labor that many of the students in our group are doing this week.  Miss Paulette also needs our prayers as she deals with the overwhelming project of repairing the unlivable conditions of her mothers home and the preparation it will take to get her sister here and eventually, into this residence where we are working.  Thank you for your prayers!
Last night at chapel, our students listened to a sermon about God’s desire to use our brokenness to redeem us back to Him.  Students learned that brokenness is NEVER a punishment from God.  God does however, allow the process of breaking in our lives because He cares about us and wants us to live “not by power, but by My Spirit.” (Zech 4:6)  This is the message we learned- that God loves us so much that He wants us to experience His absolute best for our lives, including the awesome usefulness that comes from being fully committed to serving Him.  We are only as useful to God as we are obedient to Him!   “Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up”  James 4:10
Please pray for us today and tomorrow as we are expecting some very bad weather, presenting us with challenges on our project and the possibility of adding even more water damage to Miss Paulette’s roof.  Our team needs strength, endurance, and rest to help them get through the rest of the week so we can make ourselves useful to God and the work He has called us to.  We are so thankful for all of your prayers and support!
