I am pretty sure all of the chaperones and students slept very well last night! Yesterday, we headed out to our work site right outside of Knoxville and were able to work most of the day re-roofing our soon-to-be residents home. To say this home needs a lot of work, is a HUGE understatement. The students began tearing the current roof off of the home, scraping paint AND cleaning out the inside of the house. Our homeowner, Miss Paulette’s mother lived in the home and when she died (quite some time ago), no one moved anything out of her house and the A/C and water has been off for years. She contacted Habitat for Humanity to help repair her home so that her sister can move closer to her family. She is in very poor health and needs to live near her brothers and sisters, but does not have the means to pay for a home of her own.
This project is a massive undertaking, not just for our students and chaperones, but for the Team effort folks and other churches and youth groups that will continue to work on the home throughout the summer. Please pray for them!
Last night at chapel, our students heard a sermon about pride. What does it mean when we think only of ourselves, trying to take every aspect of our lives into our own hands? How can we come back to God to find peace and let HIM lead us in His way? Our group discussed the difficulty of understanding how Miss Paulette must feel with the condition of her home. Students discussed how our life circumstances and challenges are not God’s fault and how we can get out of the “why me” mindset.
Please continue to pray for our team and Miss Paulette, our homeowner. Students were able to meet her and hear her story yesterday. We are so grateful to have your prayers and support here with us.
